The presentation will be a personal reflection of almost 50 years of medical practice. It will describe some of the joys and challenges of my career and look at changes which have occurred within the profession and within society generally, over those 50 years.
Combining professional life and family life is more acceptable but perhaps no less diff icult. There is no one model which is suitable for all. Freedom of choice for women may in fact lead to an increase in anxiety. Obsessional personality traits while helpful in training may not be conducive to the flexibility which is advantageous when attempting to “have it all”.
